Courses run by Coláiste Naomh Éanna are held in Coláiste Chroí Mhuire, the local secondary school and on the Coláiste Chonnacht campus which is located just a mile east of Spiddal Village.
Classes
Morning:
- Formal classes with emphasis on spoken Irish, grammar, culture and preparation for oral exam.
Afternoon events:
- Díospóireacht (1st year students). Topics will be on current affairs e.g. Oideachas, bunscoileanna, An Mhúinteoireacht, An Ghaeltacht, Daltaí le Riachtanais Speisialta, Tábhacht an Spóirt sna scoileanna, tábhacht na timpeallachta. The aim of this task is to enhance vocabulary, phrases, sentence structure and the ability to discuss topics of interest relating to course for student teachers.
- Creating of portfolio of teaching resources e.g. dánta, rannta, amhráin, scéalta, tomhaiseanna, tréanna, rabhlóga agus seanfhocail. The aim of this task for the student teachers to familiarise themselves with teaching and learning resources for the primary school classroom while enhancing the student’s own competency in the Irish language.
- Creating a teaching aid e.g. a poem, a story, a song for any class in primary school and a lesson plan outlining how to teach the poem, song or story. Lesson plan must be written according to the guidelines in Curaclam Teanga na Bunscoile.
- Cluichí Boird agus Cluichí Clóis. 2nd / 3rd year students).
Students will play and watch a wide range of Cluichí Boird and Cluichí Clóis and will write a review of one Cluiche Boird and one Cluiche Clóis. - Creating a teaching aid using technology e.g. digital story (2nd / 3rd year students)

Gaeltacht SCG/OCG Preparation Course Gaeltacht Course for the SCG / OCG exam Easter 2026

All the course will cover SCG and OCG Syllabus.
Emphasis will be on the following:
- Spoken Irish, preparing and practicing for the Oral exam.
- Grammar, aural, translation and comprehension will be covered.
- There will be a session on preparation for the practical in the school – yearly scheme, weekly schemes and lesson plans. Samples will be given.
- Session on ‘An Tionscadal’ SCG. Sample projects given.
- Sample essays (SCG) and sample letters (OCG) will be given.
- All participants in the course will receive a link to a dropbox with a folder for each day of the course.
- All participants will also receive a folder with past papers with answers explained in English. All participants may call, text or email Máire right up to the time of the exam with questions and for support.
- All participants may send their schemes and lesson plans to Máire for correction and advice.
- There are recordings going with the Aural Past papers, the comprehensions, the translations and grammar.
Cost: The cost is €625 per week. This price includes all classes, full board accommodation with Bean an Tí, notes, answers to past papers, access to notes, past papers, sample schemes and lesson plans in a dropbox. All subjects covered during the course will be available in a dropbox until after the exam in April 2026.
- Recordings with most folders in dropbox.
- Access to the three courses done since July this year.
- All this enables candidates to study and learn independently.
- All recordings are done by Máire, working with SCG/OCG candidates since 2008. Also a primary school teacher/principal with a Masters degree in Teaching Methodologies of Languages.

- You may do one, two or 3 weeks together.

Price includes 20 online classes via ZOOM, access to a repository with study and learning material.
Covering Oral, aural, grammar, comprehension. Notes given for prose and poetry. Sample Essays given.
Course Content:
- Sample questions and answers for oral exam including pictures.
- Plenty of practice in reading and answering comprehensions from past leaving cert papers.
- Study of grammar with emphasis on recognizing the grammar parts that come up in the comprehension e.g. Briathar Saor; Aidiacht Bhriathra; Ainm Briathra; Tuiseal Ginideach Uatha; Tuiseal Ginideach Iolra.
- Plenty of practice in Aural Comprehension (Past papers).
